The Tennessee Valley Authority and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation have made it possible for WCMES and other local power companies to help pave the way for electric vehicle travel in the State of Tennessee. WCMES had a vision for the program, while the City of Martin had the prime location. WCMES enlisted Seven States to manage this large project. On August 30, 2022, WCMES, The City of Martin, TVA, TDEC, 7 States, and many local officials gathered to celebrate the inaugural charge at the 109 University Street, Martin, Tennessee location. WCMES and the City of Martin are excited to be leading the way with the first Fast Charge Tennessee Site.
The Fast Charge Tennessee Site will become a part of a larger regional network of fast chargers across the TVA service territory. This location will help fill the charging gap here in Northwest Tennessee. WCMES’s hope is that our joint efforts here in the City of Martin will help reduce travelers’ range anxiety by having a safe location to get a fast charge. Drivers have many activities available in the downtown Martin area to participate in while their car is charging.
We look forward to seeing the growth this project brings to our community. We are charged up about what the future of electric vehicle transportation does here in Northwest Tennessee. A special thanks to TVA, TDEC, Seven States, The City of Martin Public Works Department, CAM Electric, and the WCMES Crews for making this site what it is today.
